Colour psychology

Colour plays an important role in visual communication. There are two aspects to this matter, namely 1) the physiology of colour vision, and 2) the harmony of the colours and their influence on the person - in this case, a user of an application with an appropriately designed user interface.

From the point of view of physiology, one should pay attention to the fact that perception and the resolution of vision varies considerably between different groups - for example men and women - and that there are some users who have defects in their colour vision (e.g. colour-blind users). Colour blindness is especially common among white men. With proper understanding of the issues involved and in depth knowledge of Internet technologies it is possible to design solutions in ways that enable also the visually impaired persons to use the application unhindered. Thus even visually impaired customers get an equal opportunity to benefit from e-business/commerce, e-education and e-leisure; this also increases the size of the audience to which a company can address its offers.

From the point of view of the psychology of colour it is imoprtant to evoke the right kinds of relations, emotions and connotations. By correctly choosing and arranging the colours for the graphical elements, text, links and visited links your application can look fresh and lively, romantic and calm, create a professional atmosphere or evoke feelings of agression.
