Enterprise portals
Enterprise portals are growing in popularity and are used by ever more firms. The range of applications of these portals widens constantly. We consider corporate portals by looking at three aspects:
- informativeness
- as a B2B platform
- as a platform for integration
Enterprise portals contain information available to employees at any time. Informing the team both has high managerial significance and can also make work more efficient. A common informational platform offers an opportunity for closer integration and motivation of the team - this common space of information exchange increases communication possibilities for your company's members.
Enterprise portals also offer a great B2B platform for the exchanging information and electronic commerce between firms in the corporation, as well as with other business partners.
Often the enterprise portals are integrated with ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems. By thus integrating the subsystems of the company, the information about all organisational divisions can be presented in one place - on the WWW. It is becoming more popular that this information be updated in real time, which increases the usefulness of the system for the managerial staff, and can facilitate effective decision-making.
During the creation of an enterprise portal one should not neglect the importance of CMS (Content Management Systems). These systems allow for the modification of WWW content directly by the relevant users - eliminating the specialised programming staff from the process of updating information. With the aid of CMS the editors responsible for the portal's publication can by themselves modify the information whenver need be.
