Design and Multimedia

Creation and design of solutions

The first step in any multimedia project is to develop the general conception of the application. In this phase the aims to be met, and target groups to be reached, are defined, and subsequently the most suitable types of media are chosen to fulfill these criteria. It is essential that this foundational phase be carried out properly, as it is here that most of the decisions about other aspects of the presentation are made.

At the stage of more detailed design of the application, the issues of styling, graphical appearance and appropriate colour palette are considered. Simultaneously, choices about the kinds of dynamics within the applicaiton are made and matching technologies are chosen.

Before proceeding further, it is important to note the different platforms on which the application will be used, the kinds of computing power that are likely to be avaiable to the end user, and all other variable technical parameters that can have a profound influence on the extent to which the application can be used to as intended. The precision with which these parameters are described can decide to a large extent whether the application will be a success and whether it will bring the expected benefits for the firm.

It should also be noted that decisions made at the stage of creation of the conception and desgin of the solution must be deeply thought-out, and cannot continuously undergo major changes once the production has started. Such changes can adversely affect the unity of a presentation, its impact upon the audience - it also elongates the production process and generates additional costs.

The stage of general planning and design of the multimedia application should be carried out in detail with the common involvement of the application's creators and the persons responsible for the project at the client's end. Getting this initial step right is a key stepping stone to future success.
