Reuters Poland

Corporate web site, information portal and on-line WAP service

Objectives

The objectives of the information portal, corporate web site and WAP service was to present the broad scope of information delivered continuously by one of the largest information agency in the world as well as to inform about Reuters products and solutions for news agencies and financial institutions. Important objective was also to demonstrate how quickly Reuters reacts to the world events on political scene and financial markets, what should be seen immediately when entering the web site and when paying often visits. All this should assurance that Reuters delivers on time reliable information on events in Poland and in the global scale.

Methods

The web site was designed to have two major part, static with presentations of the Reuters products, and dynamic – the information portal – with demonstration of Reuters products and services for their users. Information and quotations in the portal are generated from the Rauters data base. By providing daily market news, indices and quotations from Poland, world indices and currency rates (which all are provided with a delay to real data) the service works as a teaser to purchase Reuters products and services.

To promote fairs, conferences and educational initiatives of Reuters Poland advertising banners are placed on the main pages. The rich photography archives of Reuters are promoted by screen savers with photos from important events. The screen savers are changed periodically and can be downloaded from the Gallery section.

The main web site was supplemented by the Reuters City service – a place, where cultural and sport events in Poland are presented by Reuters journalists. This part of the web site should keep professionals coming to learn more about after hours happenings and contributes to company image among financial market players and managers of companies in Poland.

The WAP service provides on-line information and quotations from the Warsaw Stock exchange and currency rates. This demonstrates that when using Reuters services one can have up to date information at any time and any place, and make business decisions according to the current market situation.

Technologies

The web site was produced using HTML and JSP technologies. For presentation of news, indices and quotations Java applets are used. Banners are produced using Flash technology. Most of Reuters screen savers are also produced with Flash while some of them are designed and generated applying special tools developed for their production using C++ programming language. Special interfaces were produced to download data from Reuters data base servers and present them in digital and graphic form on the web site.

For the on line solution on mobile phones WAP technology was applied.

Result

The information portal, corporate web site and WAP service were produced as a result of the project. The solution plays an important role in marketing and PR activities of Reuters Poland.

Dynamic generation of the web site content, textual, graphical and financial data all together demonstrate speed, scope and reliability of information delivered continuously by Reuters to its clients. The web site creates a positive image of the company and invites new potential users of Reuters services. Reuters products are described in detail in a product section just next to the information portal.

Information of financial market events, fairs, exhibitions and educational events show involvement of the company in market development, its interest in broadening knowledge and expertise of the customer base.

The Reuters City web site serves as a loyalty tool to make the financial market participants come to Reuters also for non-professional information on after hours events.

Cooperation of JMC with Reuters Poland started in 1999 and continues. During that time the Reuters on-line solutions were several times modified and further developed.
